Irina Ilona Viippola, Industrial designer MA, Studio Viippola Oy, irina (at) viippola.com, +358 50 3574046
I’m a commercially oriented creative mind who’s been working with design and design management for over 20 years. I have a MA in industrial design and I have been working in design consultancies before joining Fiskars in 2009. At Fiskars I worked mainly with the iconic homewares brands Iittala, Arabia and Rörstrand.
My strengths are in concept and product development, product and pattern design, manufacturability, consumer research, colours and trends, as well as utilising brand archives and history. I have also been in a key role in developing marketing communication and brand visuality for Arabia and Rörstrand.
In relation to sustainability my guiding principles are to ensure longevity of the design and materials used, to understand user values, needs and desires, to avoid mixedmaterial solutions that cannot be taken apart, to reduce logistical complexity, and to support second-hand services.
My work is driven by the desire of getting things done, all the way from the drawing board to becoming a real product, service or marketing asset – something that can be experienced. And it’s not enough to get things done, they need to be done in a sound, sustainable and responsible way.
