I’m a commercially oriented creative mind who’s been working with design and design management for over 20 years. I have a MA in industrial design and I have been working both in design consultancies as well as in the industry. At the moment I run my own design consultancy, Studio Viippola, and I also work as a Professor of Practice in Industrial and Strategic Design at Aalto University.
My strengths are in concept and product development, product and pattern design, manufacturability, consumer research, colours and trends, as well as utilising brand archives and history. I have also been in a key role in developing marketing communication and brand visuality for Arabia and Rörstrand.
In relation to sustainability my guiding principles are to ensure longevity of the design and materials used, to understand user values, needs and desires, to avoid mixedmaterial solutions that cannot be taken apart, to reduce logistical complexity, and to support second-hand services.
My work is driven by the desire of getting things done, all the way from the drawing board to becoming a real product, service or marketing asset – something that can be experienced. And it’s not enough to get things done, they need to be done in a sound, sustainable and responsible way.
