Product design
This set of flowerpots designed by Irina Viippola are made on the throwing wheel by Ilona Häsänen. The wild clay used in the smaller pots is harvested from Ilona’s backyard in Pöytyä, Finland. The two biggest pots are made of Finnish red clay.
The pots are a result of experimentation with a local material and the classical “form follows function” paradigm. The idea for the shape comes from two practical challenges: how to lift the pot when there is weight and how to water the plants when there is not much space for watering can’s nozzle.
The pots were presented during Helsinki Design Week 2023 in Studio Viippola’s exhibition “Particularly mundane – a collection of products that bring joy to the everyday”.
